Cockroaches extermination: Cockroaches belong to the order Blattodea, a class of insect which include termites. There are about 30 species of cockroaches. They are common house insects found all over the world. Poor house keeping contribute to cockroach infestation. However, cockroaches are very resourceful insects. They can enter houses through a number of ways including cardboard boxes from a grocery store. Our houses are ideal place for cockroaches to live and multiply where they can find all necessities of life. Our kitchen provides them a warm temperature, plenty of water and food. Most common cockroaches are German cockroach, American cockroach, brown banded cockroach and oriental cockroach. German cockroach are the most common cockroaches usually found in our kitchen. German cockroach is 5/8 inches in length and is brown in color. Cockroaches are nocturnal. This means they hide during the day light in their hide out. A mature female cockroach lay about 50 eggs in an egg sack which she sticks to surface in their hide out. It may take about 30 days for the new born to hatch. New born become adult in 2 to 4 months. This indicates how faster infestation can spread, once they get in to a house.

How to get rid of Cockroaches

First and foremost, task to eliminate roaches is to do a thorough clean up. Deprive roaches of their food. A cockroach can live up to 30 days without food and 7 days without water. Store all your food items in sealed container. Clean around the fridge and stove. Store your garbage in tight lid container. These are the first things to do to control infestation.

There are few indications which implicate the presence of cockroaches. You may see cockroaches in the day light as they are nocturnal creatures. You may see a crawling cockroach in the day light only when infestation is too much. Usually, you may feel an oily smell or their dropping. You may find shed skin or cockroach eggs.

German cockroach

German cockroach is the most common cockroach found in our homes. An adult German cockroach is about 13-16 mm in length. In term of size, they are smaller than other roaches. American Cockroach

American cockroach is largest cockroach in term of size. It is about It is about 7 mm long and is reddish brown in color. Average life of American cockroach is about 2 years. It goes complete metamorphoses and molt about 13 times before reaching to maturity. This cockroach is common in bathroom and other area with high degree of humidity. American cockroach can not tolerate cold. They prefer hot and moist places to live in. They produce certain odorous secretion which change the flavor of our food.

Brown-Banded Cockroach

Brown banded cockroach are dark brown in color. Beside their dark brown color, they also have two light brow band across their body. Due to these light brown strips on their body, they are called brown banded cockroaches. They are about 1/2″ long with 6 legs. Although both male and female have wings but only male can fly.

Brown banded cockroaches are not very common in kitchen. Brown-banded cockroaches more common in dry and warm places. Such places include hotels, hospitals, and other buildings. You may get brown banded cockroaches through furniture or used appliances

Oriental Cockroach

Oriental cockroaches are commonly called water bugs. They are reddish brown in color and relatively larger in size. Both male and female have wings but none of them can fly. Adult male is about 18 to 29 mm long while female cockroach is 20 to 27 mm long. They usually move slower than other species of cockroaches and can be found in moist places. Most often they are found in drain, sewer and other damp places
